Well, now I’ve gone and done it!! The old computer was no longer able to handle my photography ambitions so I have invested in a MacBook Pro with a 250GB harddrive and 2.5 GB of RAM. I went with a Mac because they are more stable and better able to handle images. I backed up as many images as I could before I had files transferred to the new toy but still had about 4000 images to transfer. Apple’s photo organization software has totally screwed the way I had the images organized so now I get to go through each and every one and reorganize them!!! And, of course, the way I want to organize my images is not the way the iPhoto software does it so I am having to trick it and work around their template.
I also bought Aperture, which is Apple’s version of Photoshop. I haven’t cracked it yet because I need to get the images in some sort of coherent order before I import them into Aperture. Somehow I have the sneaking suspicion that I will eventually be buying a version of Photoshop for the Mac but I want to drive Aperture for a while before I make that decision.
I’m also wondering just how long it will be before this laptop is no longer large enough. I just bought an external harddrive to back up files, too. I just never ends, does it? At least the reorganization is requiring me to do some serious culling. I have a habit of saving every shot I take and that is no longer reasonable.
I brought this computer home about 5 hours ago. I’ll give myself a few days to get used to it before I start whining too loudly. Maybe I’ll get some sleep tonight.
I promise I’m still doing a little knitting here and there (for those of you who care). I’ll have some sort of project to show you soon.

YEA! for the new comptuer. Boo for the having to re-organize photos. And Boo Hoo for having to work around the software. I hate that.
I’m doing a little reorganizing myself but it’s my choice and I have no where near the number images you have althought I probably have more than I think I have.
